Keeping up with blogs is hard. I commend all of you who keep your sites going, social media game strong, and staying on top of whats the latest and greatest with all things comics.
Its a new year though... One of my resolutions was to get comicbookdads back on its feet. So here we are... back to reviews. I am hoping for more content besides reviews this year. If you see me out there tweeting or on insta... feel free to call me out if you see me slacking! Now, on with the review! Where is Superman? I did need a nice easy jumping on point for my first review of 2019, so a number one issue, seemed like a great place to start. Also, with all the hype coming from the Young Justice show back on DC Universe (which is awesome btw), this got me excited to read this issue. We open up in Gemworld. It seems as if their past contact with Earth and the many Crisises that have happened there they have realized also has affected them in a negative way. So, naturally Dark Opal has to send his goons to Earth to find Superman and set things right. The rest of the issue seems to really center around the moment they show up. The first one they run into is Jinny Hex, the great granddaughter of Jonah Hex. She has headed to Metropolis to find Superman (this will be a theme). She gets pulled over for some reckless driving when warriors from the 12 kingdoms of Gemworld show looking for Superman (see, I told you). After running into Wonder Girl in Metropolis, Robin (Tim Drake) jumps to the aide of Jinny to help combat these warriors from another dimension. It seems that Wonder Girl, has some issues and is reluctant to join the fight. She later does after fighting through some tears. As things start looking bleak for our young heroes defending innocents, people start showing up miles away from the action. Bart Allen (Barry's grandson... I think), starts running people to safety. We also, see our fist glimpse of Teen Lantern. She steps in to assist Wonder Girl. We don't ever actually get to see her in this issue though. She spends most of her time inside of a construct that looks much like the old ED-209 from RoboCop. As the team comes together, Bart senses that a team up is coming. So, he calls it, "YOUNG JUSTICE IS BACK!" He even throws in an "Young Justice Assemble!" and a "Young Justice United!" as battle cries.. Needless to say, they didn't really stick. They chase the warriors from Gemworld back into their inter-dimensional portal. Again, the warriors letting our young heroes know they want to see Superman. We did get a brief glimpse of Superman flying away before everything goes down. It appears that our heroes get sent to a couple different places after going through the portal. Robin ends up face to face with Amethyst with her word drawn and ready. Impulse ends up somewhere else. After speeding around for a bit, he hears a voice call out "Bart?" He looks over and its Conner Kent! Albeit Connor Kent wearing his 90's style Superboy costume. That's the cliffhanger they leave us on! Lots of action and things to be excited about for sure!
