I know... We have been gone for quite some time. People are right, running a blog is tough. But on this Father's Day, I am inspired. I am inspired to get back to posting. Get back to being a place for all the comic book dads out there to be a part of. So, today... I as for your forgiveness and for another chance at making an awesome place for you to belong!
Now that we have that behind us. Lets get to the review! STORY I have been torn a little bit with Hawkman recently. He has always been one of my favorite characters. I was hopeful at the start of Savage Hawkman. However, it disappointed quickly. The love he got in all the recent DC Metal made me hopeful for what could be next. So, when I heard this series was coming, I was pumped. Let me just say, it did not disappoint... kinda. The Cater Hall I have always loved is back (the Thanagarian space cop is not my fave). We have the adventure seeking archeologist Cater Hall back on the scene. He starts off as Hawkman, reflecting on past lives and how something is missing in all of the stories that make him who he is. So he is headed off to find find the Nautilus of Revealment in the Temple of Ooahk Kung, the All-See. He finds it of course... However, it is being guarded by a giant 3-eyed flying gorilla. After some temple running, In classic Hawkman fashion, he takes it out with his mace! Needing some help to get the nautilus working, he heads to see Madam Xanadu. At her kitchen table, they get the nautilus turned over. All at once... in a very cool page, Cater sees all the versions of Hawkman he has been. He even saw a Kryptonian version he never knew existed. But remember, Cater says something is missing. So, he seems to find what it is. An origin. He is in the middle of a vision that shows him what looks like modern day Earth with giant shadowy winged creatures standing behind a city in rubble. Imagine that scene in Stranger Things when Will sees Shadow Monster off in the distance. It was a nice, creepy, post-apocalyptic shot. This origin scene according to Cater seems like it will slaughter to him and ALL the worlds he has known... hmmm Back in Xanadu's kitchen, Cater realizes he needs to stop this vision from happening. He wonders if that vision is why he keeps being reincarnated. He wants to rush off to stop this from happening. However, Xanadu explains to him that he will need to die hundreds more deaths before he would know the answer. So, Cater was right. He knew there was more to his story as Cater Hall and Hawkman. It seems, though, as the issue closes, he might be too late to change that story. TAKEAWAY
